About the One Society Initiative

The One Society Initiative was formed by a group of scholars, students and young professionals to bridge the gap between civil society and the general public in matters of common concern. The Initiative promotes the values of human dignity, equality and freedom and strives to uphold and protect these ideals through debate, information and action. The Initiative involves itself primarily in deepening democracy by protecting marginalised persons who are not afforded constitutional rights.

Description: Lwandiselo Leadership Institute's mission is to nurture our future leaders with the same tools utilized by statesmen and women of the past, who were able to stand up and make a difference when the time came for them to be the change they wanted to see in their society. It is hard work for the mentors and for the students. Each of us have unique missions we are here to fulfill and it is our duty to discover what that mission is and find the best way for us to accomplish it. Lwandiselo's mission is to help prepare future leaders to face challenges thrown their way, in whatever sphere they may find themselves, whether it be education, business, government or home it is all the same.

Description: The Adopt-a-School Foundation is a non-profit organisation that supports the creation and enhancement of a conducive learning and teaching environment in disadvantaged schools. Established in 2002, the Foundation identifies schools in need and mobilises companies and individuals to adopt them. Their model of Whole School Development aims to improve the academic, infrastructural, social and security environment in schools. The Foundation creates opportunities for temporary employment of community members and for local businesses to get involved in improving schools. It works closely with communities and maintains strong relationships with all stakeholders. Currently, over 167 schools have been assisted or are under adoption by corporate stakeholders in South Africa. 260 SMMEs have benefitted financially and thousands of temporary jobs have been created in numerous communities across South Africa. Adopt-a-School Foundation is registered as a Section 21 company with PBO status and has an independent Board of Directors. It works with Provincial and National Government and co-operates with various NGOs and organisations involved with education, child welfare and community development.
